Radio interactive
Tod Maffin has a post at his I Love Radio blog about the urgency of radio to get with the program - or rather, get with the platform - especially when it comes to grooming the audience of the future.
Media to tomorrow's audio-programming consumers (The Artist Formerly Known As "Radio Listeners") is an assembly line today. That's it.
Listen. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are not a well-respected, branded "public radio station." In today's media environment, you are simply an option to add to the assembly line. Or not.
They will pick, swap, mix, rip, burn, podcast, mod, and mashup their media (or, soon enough, their software or devices will do that for them) to present them with a personalized view of the world.

A note on DXLD about the installation of DRM transmiiters in Germany as most (> 90%) people pick up radio via cable and broadcasts continue because they are mandated.
People want "FM quality" radio and in many countries have given up on AM radio.
Note on Canadian public transit, the earplugs are going to CD players or MP3s, all without radio reception.
Those fewer (and fewer) in automobiles are going to Sat radio for a while until they install an MP3 player and their I-pod-like devices into the car stereo.
Programming will still matter, but unless it is of the highest quality, few will try to find it.
