Daily Dot: Paul Weller
On May 25, 1958, Paul Weller was born. Weller has been a big part of my musical life for well over a quarter-century. I was one of millions of teenage Jam fans - buying the jacket and shades to prove it - and followed him through the Style Council (at least, most of it). After a bit of a slumber from the industry, Weller came back in 1992 as the solo act he perhaps should always have been. He got a lifetime achievement award from the Brit Awards this year; his bangup job on Town Called Malice made it seem as fresh when it first came out. (You can watch it here.) A haircut, though, is overdue...

I was very fortunate in my luck at being 18 in 1981. I still have that on 12 inch 45.

I don't think I have any of my old 45s. (Or any new ones, obviously!) But even through various space-saving purges of my record collection, I hung on to every Jam record I had, including the 12" stuff. Hard to believe it's all nostalgia now.

One great regret I have is when backpacking in the mid-80s I was heading out of London to go visit the relatives in Scotland and running to catch a 10 am bus. I ran past a pub that had a sign that said "Tonight: Billy Bragg and Paul Weller." I caught the bus anyway. Dummie.
