A few years ago, when his star had lost some lustre, an argument could be made that Prince was selling his songs online because he stood a better chance of making a buck than dumping unsold product in the stores. (Years of sniping with music companies didn't help, either.) Now that he's back in the game, Prince is getting an award for being visionary with the online thing ... the Webby Awards will be honouring Prince next month. Prince's site, NPG Music Club, contains seven albums that have never been released to stores.
One thought: the Webby Awards are famous for restricting winners to just five words. I wonder if Prince, who is notorious for saying almost nothing, will manage to use up his five-word limit.
