3:30: Game on
David Janes picked up on my post yesterday, about my curiosity about disparate songs that had one thing in common: being 3'30" in length.
His post is here. (I should note that my list is abridged, although I did fess up to a Duran Duran tune.)
What about yours? If you have iTunes or a similar program, you can find out in a jiffy.
Leave a comment, or post a note on your own blog, and let me know.

My list (embarrassing as it might be) is listed in the original post.

I think it interesting that so many modern artists are wedded to a song length that has its roots in the technology of a century ago. In 1910, the new thing in music tech was the 78, which could hold just a bit over three minutes of music.
So here we are 95 years later, listening to music on digital computers rather than mechanical needle-in-groove equipment, but the songs remain the same.
Further note: I have a handful of iTunes tracks on my PC, but I still prefer listening to music on a proper stereo. The reproduction of MP3s is only acceptable if you're playing them in the background and not really LISTENING to them. Which, I suppose, it the case when you're blogging all day long anyway....

Karen: my copy of The Old Black Rum, from Up, is only 2:27 - is that a live or other version?

Heather, it's the live version from "Road Rage".

I've been finding that some of my songs are slightly off the time as those listed here. Terrence Trent D'arby's "Wishing Well" for instance is 3:31 on my MusicMatch Jukebox.

My list is up as well...I suspect the difference in song lengths comes from ripping or downloading music. A second or two might get cut from a song in that process, although it's likely just dead air at the beginning or ending of a song.

OK, there's something very wrong going on here. My copy of some of the songs on some of these alleged 3:30 lists are not 3:30, or even close. One of my favorite tunes, for example, Dire Strait's Where do you think you're going, is actually 3:43. Are the iTunes versions truncated THAT much? Another reason to stick with CDs. Or even LPs. Speaking of Dire Straits, I remember being most disappointed that the CD version of the classic "Sultans of Swing" was a dozen seconds shorter than the original LP version, fading out just as the closing guitar solo really got going. Most annoying. I say, a pox on iTunes!
