It's been cold in St. John's lately - brass-monkey cold, given the season. Drat. So, my playlist this week are songs that make me think of warmer weather, even if I can't quite have it today. (And, on the bright side, the forecast for mid-week is in the high teens.)
Jeff Dyer: Come Rain or Come Shine. From Days Gone By, one of Dyer's standards. And he's singing again, too, which is a day-brightener.
Cannonbal Adderley & Sergio Mendes: Corcovado (Quiet Nights) ... with a cold drink on the deck as the sun sets. Perfect ... or at least a good prompt to go fetch your martini shaker, put it in the freezer, and rummage around for ingredients.
Simple Minds: Someone Somewhere (In Summertime). Not the coolest, but a good finger-tapper with the car window down.
k.d. lang: The Consequences of Falling. lang's Invincible Summer album is certainly not her best, but the artwork and feel have a nice, languid, late-August blissout feeling to them. (And I like the line about running "with Kennedy flair" on beaches from the Summerfling single.)
The Beach Boys: Do It Again. It's a cliche to list the Beach Boys with summer music, but face it, they nailed it. I got into Do It Again when I sampled the Happy Feet soundtrack.
