I can't remember when I first heard Emmylou Harris' Light of the Stable, but I do recall feeling the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I first heard the harmonies. If the backing vocals sound familiar, they should; Harris rounded up friends Neil Young, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt for the track, which was first recorded in the mid-Seventies, issued a bit later on an album of the same name. [Years later, she, Parton and Ronstadt made Trio, a classic in country crossover.] I bought the album as the 2004 reissue.
This is the 11th entry in my musical advent calendar for this year.
