Young me, old me (even in plaid)

The three brave men on the right are indeed the same chaps on the right; they took part, but did not win, in a competition sponsored by ColorWars titled YoungMe, Now Me. The idea: participants chose a picture of themselves from years ago, and matched the stance as best they could. Charming lot.

The coral

Time is offering an eye-popping photogallery on threatened coral. Worth a visit.

Rays of freedom

The above is one of a striking series of photographs taken inside the so-called Freedom Tunnel, an Amtrak tunnel which runs under a park in Manhattan, but is probably best known for the gr affiti produced inside. For some of that, have a look here.

Aisle soar

Above is one photo of a series by French photographer Denis Darzacq, who recruited athletes and dancers for shoots in otherwise empty supermarkets. More can be seen here.

We get older; so too do our cars, except that they're usually not part of our lives for all that long. This photo series provides remarkable exceptions to the rule.

Beauty shots

When I have some free time, even a few minutes, I like to go through photo blogs; part of it is envy, as I am no photographer at all. Lately, the Newfoundland photobloggers have been looking for signs of spring, and reacting to the lack of it sometimes. Here are some of the pics I've seen the last week or so.

At Bitstop, Karen posted this shot of a foggy walk last week, which I thought captured how pleasant fog can be (apart from the, you know, bone-chilling aspects, too).

Kim Goodyear responded to the solid run of RDF with a few photos of sunnier times, including this joyful one below.

This is a shot from the Scenes & Things, showing a skiff in Pouch Cove. I like the painted walls that make up the backdrop.

Lloyd C. Rees posted this shot of a marsh last week; it struck a chord with me, as this what May really looks like: the leftovers of winter, but poised to burst again, sooner or later.
