I'm hoping Fringe will be around at least another year, if only because there aren't many smart dramas on the main U.S. networks right now. This shirt lifts the Observer theme and the shows use of icons, adding Watchmen twist along the way.
Almost three years ago, the Simpsons let its comic-book flag high and vigorously with an episode called Husbands and Knives, which had one comic-related joke after another ... not to mention voice appearances by Alan Moore and Art Spiegelman. Watchmen Babies? Excellent.
With the Watchmen DVD hitting stores today (including a director's cut edition that adds 24 minutes to the running time), Wired asks an interesting question: what else is out there, really, that's unfilmable? Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns (above) is on the list, as well as dorm-reading mainstays Gravity's Rainbow and Neuromancer. You can add your own suggestions to the list, and vote on your interest in any of the adaptations.
Instead of a dark, dedicated adaptation of the original series, what if the Watchmen had instead been adapted to fit into old-style Saturday morning cartoons?
This made me laugh, several times over, particularly with the Scooby-like sound effects as the characters ran, and the line, "Jon can give you cancer." Here's the creator's page.
The new Watchmen trailer (click below to watch) is out; if you're curious about just how much is packed in there, read all about it here. Plenty of things from the original series, plus some other nods and winks.
Dot Dot Dot is Morse code for the letter 'S,' the full message Guglielmo Marconi claimed to have received atop Signal Hill in St. John's in 1901. It ushered in the age of telecommunications. My maternal grandfather worked as a telegraph operator for Canadian Marconi on Signal Hill for many years.
As well, I have a habit of overusing the ellipsis when I write ... as frequent readers might notice.
