Shelby Foote

Shelby Foote has died, at 88. Like most people, I knew nothing about him until Ken Burns' The Civil War made him a household name.

I found him to be a spellbinding person to watch, an incredible storyteller - even when he was telling the stories of others, such as when he would read aloud from letters from the war.
