David Janes noticed something remarkable in a scene in Pixar's The Incredibles: Mr. Incredible holds a tablet-like device that has some strong similiarities to the newly revealed iPad. The movie (don't forget that Pixar is just one of Steve Jobs' success stories) came out in 2004, six years before the iPad.
Check out more images that David selected right here.
By the way, since you are here, have you seen the sock puppet version of The Incredibles?
Not to be a total nerd, but Star Trek The Next Generation debuted iPads in 1987 :)

No need to go any further than Neil Stephenson's 1995 The Diamond Age or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer.

Well here's a link to something even earlier, from the amazing Sir Arthur C. Clarke

Pixar made the Incredibles. Steve Jobs made Pixar. There is definitely linkage!

I'm happy with the current ipad since I primarily use it as a color reader and to manage todo lists and projects etc. I imagine the 2nd gen ipad will at least have a facetime camera and perhaps an additional usb connection for landscape docking. If video conferencing is important then you may require to wait for the 2nd gen iPad..
