I recorded Troubadours, the PBS documentary on James Taylor, Carole King and the singer-songwriter movement, and started watching it this morning. It reminded me how the melody and words of Fire and Rain, a song that took its inspiration from a friend's suicide and the breakup of Taylor's adolescent band, have become so entrenched.
And, of course, Taylor won a new level of admiration for appearing years ago on The Simpsons as himself, serenading Deep Space Homer and the other astronauts with a bowdlerized version of the song.
still beautiful after all these years!
