Fire and Rain I recorded Troubadours, the PBS documentary on James Taylor, Carole King and the singer-songwriter movement, and started watching it this morning. It reminded me how the melody and words of Fire and Rain, a song that took its inspiration from a friend's suicide and the breakup of Taylor's adolescent band, have become so entrenched. And, of course, Taylor won a new level of admiration for appearing years ago on The Simpsons as himself, serenading Deep...

Coffee Minion at work A few years ago, Martha gave me the nickname of Coffee Minion, as - in the division of household labour that we've worked out over the last, um, 26 years or so - I make the coffee. (Rather well, I might add.) Here's the scene from this morning. And here's the finished result, ready to serve:
