This is the song that set Peter Gabriel on his way as a solo artist, literally; it's about his decision to walk away from Genesis just as they were hitting their stride ("the machinery," as he put it). It's also well-known for having a time signature of 7/4, which makes clapping along a teensy bit of a challenge.
This live version is (I think) from his tour circa 2002, which featured a clean, in-the-round-set ... and a bicycle-cam.
Well now - love his stuff - really do - and this single - but I have (rather unusually) an issue :-)

Interesting point, except that I did use the word "song" and not "single." Also, the thread it's posted to is called "song of the day." I guess I could put "excerpt of body of work of the day," but that might be a bit unwieldy. :)
All that said, Solsbury Hill *was* indeed the first single that Peter Gabriel issued as a solo artist.
All the best.
