Or, the Hitler meme comes close to home. The latest in many, many, many parodies coming out of the very serious film Downfall. [By the way, you may be surprised to learn that the director of Downfall actually enjoys the parodies, about everything from the death of Michael Jackson to Hillary Clinton's political fortunes to various bits of business, sports and political news, and has watched many of them.] 

If you're living away from St. John's, here's the skinny: a locally based company, Fortis Inc., which started as the holding company for Newfoundland Power and has since done very well for itself internationally in real estate and energy, is proposing to build a 15-storey glass tower next to an existing building in downtown St. John's. St. John's has heritage regulations which limit developments, although council may make exemptions.

Why is #teamconan one of the most popular hashtags on Twitter right now? Probably because most people recognize a hijacking when they see one, and agree with Conan O'Brien that it's not right to punish him for Jay Leno's failure in prime time.

Small wonder someone got to the "HItler learns ..." meme and gave it yet another twist.

Another example in the meme that won't die. Retooling of a once-serious seen from the film Downfall began last year; in July, I posted a version about the death of Michael Jackson. The latest one I've seen? Last week's DIsney purchase of the Marvel comics canon.

Yes, this is completely tasteless, but I laughed out loud when I watched this clip this morning: the latest in a long, long line of parodies using Hitler's breakdown scene from the movie Downfall. (More on that here.) The subtitles are not for the easily offended.
